Methodology
At Prehost.com, we analyze web hosting performance and speed based on real-world data from over 17 million websites globally. We use the TTFB (Time To First Byte) metric, which measures the time from sending a request to a server to receiving the first byte of data. TTFB is crucial for page loading speed, affecting user experience and SEO optimization.
Our TTFB data comes from The Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX), an official Google dataset showing how users interact with popular websites. CrUX provides TTFB information in two categories:
- TTFB P75: average time for the 75th percentile,
- percentage distribution of TTFB:
- good (0-800 ms),
- needs improvement (800-1800 ms),
- poor (above 1800 ms).
We also analyze which hosting company serves a particular website, based on data about nameservers (NS) collected independently.
Results for TTFB P75 and percentage distribution are presented on Prehost.com as the latest weighted average for sites hosted by specific companies. All this data is updated monthly.
